Lissa, you’ve done a great public service here by testing out the subzero performance of your heat pumps. We had the woodstove cranking the whole time as backup to our Samsung mini split here in Downeast Maine at -16 F and 40 below windchill. Question is hot water. We also have a cold basement and I worry about hot water heat pump impact in winter. What’s your hot water situation?
I've enjoyed following along with your Maine situation also! Whoof, -16F is a lot.
I have a regular electric hot water heater, it's maybe 5 or 6 years old and has decent insulation. I haven't been worried about it. It's the ancient copper pipes next to equally ancient windows down there that I fret about.
Hey there! Out of curiosity, what sq ft is your house? I'm looking into heat pumps (also in the catskills) and $17k sounds a bit out of my budget but it's only a 1,200 square foot house.

this is really helpful & interesting Lissa- thank you and glad you're on the mend!
Thank you! Feels good to be back in the saddle.
